CLEVELAND -- Browns quarterback Cody Kessler left Sundays 33-13 loss to the New England Patriots late in the first quarter with chest and rib injuries and was ruled out after halftime.Following the Browns loss, coach Hue Jackson said Kessler was considered day-to-day.There is nothing broken. It will be day-to-day, Jackson said. It is a chest/rib situation and, obviously, we will find out more tomorrow.Kessler, who appeared to be in serious pain as he spoke, said he was simply in too much pain to play, though he tried to return. Both Jackson and Kessler said X-rays came back clean.Kessler was hurt when he landed on his right shoulder as he was smothered by Patriots linebacker?Donta Hightower.I landed and I heard something weird, Kessler said in describing the injury.Kessler lost the ball as he attempted to throw on a dropback from the Browns 10-yard line. The ball went backward and sideways, resulting in a safety when the ball rolled out of the side of the end zone. Kessler officially was credited with a rush for no yards and a fumble.Kessler was slow to get up, then was taken to the locker room shortly after he returned to the bench. He had guided the Browns to a touchdown -- an 11-yard throw to Andrew Hawkins?--?on his second drive. The rookie quarterback said the training staff would call him Sunday night to see how he felt before determining if he would be sent for an MRI on Monday. He said he would do all he could to play next week.My goal is to come back as fast as possible, Kessler said. Ill know more in the next couple days and just see how it feels and stay on top of it and get treatment. My goal is to get healthy really fast.Kessler, a third-round pick, had been the 26th different quarterback to start for the Browns since 1999.Terrelle Pryor took the first two snaps with Kessler out, gaining 1 yard on a run and throwing incomplete on the second.Charlie Whitehurst?came into the game and completed a 10-yard pass to Gary Barnidge on third down. The Browns punted four plays later. But in the fourth quarter, Whitehurst limped into the locker room and was replaced by Pryor. Whitehurst, hit by Jonathan Jones as he threw, suffered a left knee injury.Whitehurst did return to the game, but he said his left knee situation would be day-to-day as he sees how it feels during the week.I just landed on it. I think it hyperextended, Whitehurst said. I was hoping it wasnt serious. I think Ill be fine.According to ESPN Stats & Information, Whitehursts throw made the Browns the first team since the 2002 Eagles to have five different players attempt a pass in the teams first five games.Robert Griffin III, who began the season as the Browns starter, is on injured reserve with a fractured bone in his left shoulder. Josh McCown, who replaced Griffin, has been out since Week 1 with a broken left collarbone. McCown is scheduled to get an X-ray on Monday to see how he is healing.I wont know [if McCown can play] until we get some more medical reports back for him, Jackson said. RIO DE JANEIRO -- Saskia Clark and Hannah Mills were stuck on their 470 boat near the Marina da Gloria for nearly three hours in temperatures above 30 degrees celsius as they waited for the wind that was supposed to blow them to gold. They had hardly slept the night before, disturbed by the anticipation of a race they simply have to complete without serious error to claim the Olympic sailing title they have waited four years for.But no matter how many points the British pair have accrued from their performances here so far, the 2012 silver medallists could do nothing as the weather refused to provide the right conditions.A disappointing day, Mills said. We wanted to get things wrapped up but, as they say, good things come to those who wait, so we will be waiting another 24 hours.Clark, due to retire from sailing after the Games, added: It will be a massive relief when we get out there because its not done.It must be almost painful to have those gold medals so tantalisingly close and be deprived of the chance to claim them, so were they sitting their grinding their teeth in frustration? We were chatting away, said Clark. Han was putting the world to rights. If a bit of breeze comes in and it looks like its going to happen we get engaged, get our numbers, get a feel for conditions.Otherwise, we try to switch down a little bit so we dont fry our brains too early. That would have been an intense three hours if we had thought we were going to race the whole time.It was a bit too hot to be on thhe water [but] we could stay relatively calm because there wasnt something keep pulsing in so that we had to get ready and check everything.dddddddddddd It was pretty mellow and never looked like it [would happen].Apart from talking to each other, they spoke with their coach and the television camera crew on a boat nearby, eat and took on water and hydration drinks and, apparently, there was lots of going to the toilet. After nearly a month in Brazil and 10 races leading up to the postponed finale, it seemed a little rough on Clark and Mills. But at least an afternoon on the water may have calmed their nerves a little before Thursdays attempt. We should sleep because we are so tired, Mills said.We have had a few delays but Rio is the sort of venue when we knew the wind could be tricky and we might have to wait every now and again -- and it has certainly proved that. We havent got it yet. When Clark and Mills finally get their medals they plan to celebrate with the family and friends who have made the trip to Brazil and have an evening at the Team GB house, but they arent taking things completely for granted. The plans can wait, said Mills. We will do another boat check to make sure nothing is likely to break and go through the whole routine again. She didnt need to say they would be checking the weather forecast - which looked better for them on Wednesday -- too.
