e Boston Bruins in points (36) and goals (18). Marchand is one of only 11 NHL players who have scored two-or-more goals in a Stanley Cup
MIAMI -- The New York Mets can put on a power show.--Lucas Duda hit 30 homers in 2014 and 27 last year.--Curtis Granderson has 30 homers this season and 21 RBI in 23 games this month.--Yoenis Cespedes hit his 31st homer of the season Tuesday and is one of the most feared sluggers in the game.--Jay Bruce, who had been slumping since the Mets acquired him from the Cincinnati Reds at the trade deadline, has six hits in his past 14 at-bats. He, like Cespedes, his his 31st homer Tuesday.--Asdrubal Cabrera, a switch hitter, has 23 homers this season and is hitting .424 in his past eight games.Add it all up -- as the Mets did Tuesday when they launched 19 hits in a 12-1 victory over the Miami Marlins -- and it can be scary for opposing pitchers.Bruce and Cespedes hit homers in the same game for the first time since the Mets made the trade.Thats what we were hoping they would do, Mets manager Terry Collins said. If hes back, were going to be a different lineup.Another big development for New York was the return of Duda, who had his first multi-RBI game since May 4. He missed nearly four months because of back surgery, returning Sept. 18.Its going OK -- it could be a lot better, Duda said of his comeback. The more I play, the more comfortable I get.The Mets (84-74) and Marlins (78-79) play their series finale Wednesday, and New York is locked in a three-way battle with the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants for two NL wild-card berths, one-half game ahead of San Francisco and 1 1/2 on top of St. Louis.New York throws 26-year-old right-hander Seth Lugo on Wednesday. The rookie is 4-1 with a 2.31 ERA in his past six starts.Lugo and fellow rookie right-hander Robert Gsellman have effectively saved the Mets season. With four of the teams projected top five starters out for the season because of injuries -- Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom, Zack Wheeler and Steven Matz -- Lugo and Gsellman have stepped up for New York.Miami also throws a young right-hander as Jose Urena, who is 5-13 with a 5.64 ERA in his two-year career, takes the ball. This season, he is 4-8 with a 5.95 ERA.However, Urena has pitched well against the Mets this year with a 1-1 record and a 1.50 ERA.The Marlins are hoping for the best from Urena, but are still mourning the death of star pitcher Jose Fernandez, who died in a boat crash Sunday morning.Memorial services for Fernandez include a public viewing Wednesday and a mass Thursday.Jonathan Goodwin Jersey .B. - Sebastien Auger made 44 saves as the Saint John Sea Dogs edged the visiting Acadie-Bathurst Titan 2-1 on Saturday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action. The team also announced Tuesday that the Braves will wear a commemorative patch on the right sleeve during the season. The patch, shaped like home plate, carries the number 715, Aarons autograph and a "40th Anniversary" banner. Keith Mitchell Jersey . -- Vincent Lecavalier got everything but the desired result in his return to Tampa Bay.Round 1 of TSN.cas 2013 Play of the Year Showdown keeps the plays coming with a couple of beautiful plays from two storied franchises. Edmonton Oilers forward Ales Hemsky shows off some sweet skills with some great moves, while Boston Bruins agitator, Brad Marchand displays some unexpected hands with his gorgeous effort. Ryan Smyth gets this POY entry started with a selfless pass to the streaking Hemsky. From there, Hemsky strings together a series of quick moves, turns Shane OBrien inside-out, blows past the stalled defender, and wraps it all up with a great finish. Certainly one of the fastest POY candidates weve had so far. In a great individual effort against the Buffalo Sabres, Marchand takes the puck off the half-boards and pushes towards the Sabres net. With a couple clever moves, Marchand is able to dust a flat-footed Tyler Myers, slide by another Sabres defender and make quick work a sprawling Ryan Miller. A pretty fantastic POY play for an agitator. You can watch the highlights and make your decision here (http://poy.tsn.ca). Every vote counts so watch all the plays and take part in the TSN.ca Play of the YYear Showdown.dddddddddddd Player facts: - Hemsky has battled injuries often in his career, but when hes healthy, he is a big producer. Hemsky led the Edmonton Oilers in each of the 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 seasons in both assists and total points. - Marchand has had quite a solid 2012-13 season, leading the Boston Bruins in points (36) and goals (18). Marchand is one of only 11 NHL players who have scored two-or-more goals in a Stanley Cup Finals Game 7. Fun facts: - Back in 2005, during the NHL lockout, Hemsky was at a bar back in his native Czech Republic when he was stabbed in the left side of his neck with a broken beer bottle. In the end, he received 10-15 stitches and no permanent damage from the unprovoked attack. On a happier note, Hemsky holds Edmontons team record for fastest two goals in the regular season (seven seconds apart). - Marchand has a couple unusual nicknames, from Marshmont (which came from a radio station caller who mispronounced his name) to Nose Face Killah, the creative nicknames have stuck with him, but the name he is most often referred to amongst Bruin players is Honey Badger.
