TWICKENHAM, London -- When Leroy Houston stood, wearing his first cap, in the bowels of Twickenham as Wallaby No. 901 moments after Australia defeated Argentina, he didnt know whether to laugh or cry -- in the end it was a combination of both. The pride at making his debut for Australia was writ large on his face; the smile looked like it would never fall.I cant put it into words, Houston said. Its an amazing feeling to become a Wallaby.... Far out! Ive aspired for a long time to become one and I didnt think Id get to this level. Its been a hard journey... but ... just to get that opportunity to run out with Quade Cooper and Michael Hooper, these boys are going to be legends, so Im so happy. It was a long, turbulent journey for Houston to get to this point.Capped at U19, U21 and A level, Houston ticked all the boxes but didnt get the nod at Test level despite being on their 2005 tour. He was part of the 2011 Super Rugby-winning Reds side but then he journeyed to Bordeaux where his career nose-dived. Dreams of Test rugby were a world away.He didnt adjust to French rugby, finding he was unsuited to the attritional nature. When I went to France that was when I questioned myself and whether I was good enough to play professional rugby. I was really down in the dumps, Houston says but then an unlikely olive-branch came from Colomiers in PROD2 and he fell back in love with the game.Bath picked him up in 2013 and the town, club, players and supporters took him to their heart. He excelled at the Recreation Ground but at the end of last season he left to return to the Reds with Michael Cheika teeing him up as a future Wallaby. He failed to break into the side for the June Tests against England but here in the final match of the Rugby Championship he managed to get that previously elusive first cap as a 70th minute substitute for Lopeti Timani. Emotions had to be suppressed. That was the number one mental focus. Trying not to contain emotions, but just to be clear minded about my job, maintaining the system that Australia has both in attack and defence. Im a ball carrier but I didnt actually touch the ball! The cap is likely to stay on his head for the next couple of days while his Test shirt will eventually be framed on the wall of his family home alongside his other representative shirts. A 901 tattoo may follow. But over the next couple of days he will return to Bath, where he is currently on loan due to their back-row injury crisis. It is his home from home and his Bath teammates Matt Garvey, Matt Banahan and Kane Palma-Newport were there at Twickenham to welcome him as he walked off the bus. These boys are the reason Im here today. If I hadnt played for Bath and played to the potential I have, I wouldnt be here today. He is unlikely to feature in Australias third Bledisloe Cup match against New Zealand -- Cheika said earlier in the week theyd let Bath keep him over the next couple of weeks as a thank you for releasing him for the Test against Argentina -- but will be hopeful of featuring in the end-of-year Tests. The perfect end to Houstons year would be to face England, complete with some of his Bath teammates, on Dec. 3 at Twickenham.Im hoping, fingers crossed, that happens. I dont know what the coaches are thinking. I hope to be involved and if that did come around, Id love to play the likes of George Ford and Jonathan Joseph. Jrue Holiday Jersey . Peter Gammons, an analyst for Major League Baseballs network and website, drew the ire of hockey fans on Sunday when he criticized the two NHL teams on Twitter for their physical game the night before. ATLANTA -- Even after beginning the season with a last-minute victory in Ireland, Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson is not happy with his team.Johnson delivered a harsh assessment of the Yellow Jackets on Tuesday, warning there could be plenty of changes in the starting lineup for the home opener against FCS opponent Mercer. He specifically mentioned A-back, punter and the offensive line as positions where new starters could win jobs in practice this week. Its about who we want to be, Johnson said. If we want to be dead average, thats the way we played last Saturday -- at best. If we want to be good, we better get to work, play better and play harder. Weve got to be more physical. Weve got to have more accountability. The Yellow Jackets rallied to beat Boston College 17-14 in Dublin, but they hardly looked impressive doing it. The triple-option offense was held to 238 yards and the running game struggled, managing only 2.7 yards per attempt -- one of the worst showings of Johnsons nine-year tenure. While some lineman complained of communication problems on the offensive side, Johnson said that was just a weak excuse for the teams poor play up front. Some of the stuff we did was just stupid, the coach said. Im not giving them an out on that. Ive heard enough about communication problems. I want to see somebody put their hand down and come off the damn ball. The A-backs accounted for only 3 yards rushing, though Qua Searcy was the teams top receiver with three catches for 60 yards. He will remain a starter this week, but the rest of the depth chart is up for grabs, according to Johnson.J.J. Green, a transfer from GGeorgia who sat out last season, had a key block on Dedrick Mills winning touchdown run but managed just 5 yards on two carries.dddddddddddd On several plays, he appeared unsure of where to line up. Clinton Lynch carried the ball only one time (for 2 yards), and?Isiah Willis didnt show up at all on the stat sheet.Weve got one starter this week, and thats Searcy, Johnson said. The rest of those guys, well see. It could be any of those guys.Johnson was particularly perturbed about the punting situation.Ryan Rodwell averaged just 37.4 yards on five punts, with a net average of 30.7, which prompted the coach to flatly declare we have no punter right now.A fifth-year senior, Rodwell was one of the lowest-ranked punters in the country a year ago, averaging 39.3 yards, and his net average of 38.1 was worst in the Atlantic Coast Conference. He will be competing for the job with junior Grant Aasen, who has yet to play a college game. Its wide open right now, Johnson said. We will be charting every kick this week. Theres a good chance somebody else be given an opportunity. Whats the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over again with the same results. If were going to get the same results, we need to get them with somebody else.Overall, Johnson is simply looking for a team that plays with more toughness and doesnt waver from its assignments.Just do your job, he said. Nobodys ever perfect. But weve got a chance to be so much better if we just do what were supposed to do. ' ' '
