On Tuesday night, the heavily favored U.S. womens gymnastics team won gold -- the second straight Olympic gold medal and the third in history for the U.S. women. Captain Aly Raisman, a veteran from the 2012 Olympic squad, talks about the teams mindset in Rio.So far, this Olympics has been a dream come true for our team. But when someone asked me after the qualifying round on Sunday if we thought we could afford to slack off I had one answer: No way.We qualified in first place by almost 10 points, which is huge in gymnastics. We always strive to win, but even we were surprised by 10 points. But we took nothing for granted for the team final on Tuesday night. We know nothing in sport is a given.Thousands of hours of practice went into making those few minutes of competition look easy. None of it would have been possible for this team without our coaches, national team coordinator Martha Karolyi, our families -- and each other. When your team is No. 1 in the world, theres a huge target on your back. Every time you take the floor, people are looking to see if youre not as good as you were the last time. We were aware of the pressure that was on us, that we won a gold medal four years ago in London, that we defended ouur world title last fall in Glasgow, and the expectations for Rio were -- and will continue to be -- huge.ddddddddddddBut instead of letting it get to us, we used it as motivation. We didnt slack off in the gym -- if anything, we worked even harder because of it. We did pressure sets, pretending that we were in competition and not letting anything slide. Thats why by the time we walked into the arena we were so confident. Now its just onward from here. Every one of us has made at least one individual final, and were looking forward to cheering each other on. Simone Biles and I will be in the all-around final on Thursday, and well both be in floor finals as well. From here, the challenge becomes staying focused for the rest of the competition. So I was back in the gym yesterday and today, doing what Ive done for most of my life. My goal for the all-around final today is just to do what I did during team finals: have a calm competition and perform that same way.Itll be an exciting competition, and Id like to know that I did everything I could to prepare. In the end, thats all you can do. ' ' '
