The season is getting real exciting for one team while the end of the line is on the horizon for another. The New York Giants at 7-3 are looking for their sixth straight victory and are steaming full speed ahead for the postseason. The 0-11 Cleveland ship is springing leaks and all the Browns can hope for is a life preserver to stay afloat until they can sail off into the sunset and their own postseason of preparing for next year. When the Giants travel to Cleveland for a 1 p.m. ET Sunday kickoff, it will be the 49th time the two teams have met in the regular season. The Browns hold a 26-20-2 edge.Last week, New York might have underestimated the Chicago Bears. But quarterback Eli Manning rescued the Giants by throwing two touchdown passes in the third quarter to rally his team over Chicago -- another of the NFLs bottom-dwellers.Could the Giants have been looking ahead? Doubtful. And they wont take the Browns lightly after the close call with Chicago. The Browns lost 24-9 to the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. Quarterback Josh McCown took over for rookie Cody Kessler, who was knocked out of a game for the third time this season. McCown will start Sunday. On Wednesday, the Browns designated quarterback Robert Griffin III to return from injured reserve.Griffin practiced Wednesday but has not been cleared to play. He was the starter in Game 1, but broke a bone in his left shoulder. And for the first time, frustration in the Browns locker room boiled over with perhaps the teams best two players speaking up.Terrelle Pryor Sr., the former quarterback who has had a breakout season, called out the offensive line after Kessler and McCown were sacked eight times by the Steelers.Somebodys got to say it so I will, Pryor said. Im tired of our quarterbacks getting hit. This is (baloney). They cant keep getting hit like that. ... Whoevers given up their blocks, they need to stop it.Left tackle and future Hall of Famer Joe Thomas also criticized the front office for letting center Alex Mack (Atlanta Falcons) and right tackle Mitchell Schwartz (Kansas City Chiefs) leave through free agency.Well, we lost a couple really good players, I think the best at their position, Thomas said. But that was our strategy in the offseason. Thats what we decided to do.Youve got to lie in the bed that youve made, and I dont make the decisions on who comes and goes. So thats not something that I can concern myself with.Just another complication for Browns first-year coach Hue Jackson. He said he wished his players wouldnt voice frustrations to reporters, but in a roundabout said Pryor and Thomas, who has not missed a snap in his nine-year career, had earned some cache to speak out. They want to win, Jackson said. Its all coming from a good place. These guys work extremely hard. They come in this building every day and theyre in here working their tails off with the expectation to go out and win and play well. While Jackson and the Browns are trying to figure out how to survive, New York counterpart Ben McAdoo is pushing all the right buttons in his first season, but he knows theres work to be done.We havent accomplished anything yet, McAdoo said. The highs are high and the lows are low and youre going have to put out three dumpster fires a day. Other than that, you need to focus on your preparation and get ready for the next opponent.McAdoo embraces away games and relishes time his squad can spend on the road.Anytime you get a chance to get on the road and bond and spend some time together, some quality time together that way, your team has a chance to grow and get closer, he said. And the Giants have done just that, especially the defense. The Giants defense has eight picks and 14 sacks in their last eight games. Landon Collins is headed to the Pro Bowl (80 tackles, three sacks and five interceptions) and defensive ends Jason Pierre-Paul and Olivier Vernon are playing at a high level.Pierre-Paul did show up on Wednesdays injury report with swelling in a knee, which kept him on the sideline. And for the first time in two years, the Giants compiled back-to-back 100-yard rushing games the past two weeks.Manning will be licking his chops as he goes against a defense that is 31st in yards (409.5), 22nd against the pass (265.5), 31st against the run (143.9) and 31st in points allowed (29.5).The Browns rank next to last in sacks with 16.Yet, Manning is not taking the Browns defense lightly, pointing to cornerback Joe Haden, who is one of the best at his position.Hes got great ball skills. When the balls in the air, he does a great job finding it and catching it, Manning said.Haden will have his hands full, though, as he most likely will line up opposite of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who was dealing with a jammed finger. After a slow start, Beckham has compiled 819 yards on 59 receptions and scored six touchdowns. The Browns other starting corner, Tramon Williams, was limited in practice with a knee injury that sidelined him last week. These teams have at least one thing in common: neither has scored 30 points this season.Weather is not expected to be an issue with temperatures along Lake Erie in the 50s. But if Mother Nature does rear her head, Manning will be prepared.I think you just have to go with the game plan, he said Wednesday. Were not going to be able to do everything. Just try and have answers for all their defenses. If we get to Sunday and it is bad conditions, you just deal with it from there. One of the things the Browns must deal with on their journey to possible infamy is keeping the fan base and staying the course. They have a boatload of draft picks and Jackson is committed.I truly believe Im just the man for the job, he said. That has not shown, and I respect that and I understand how our fans and all feel, but Im not running from this. Im going to run through it, and Im going to deal with it head on. We are going to fix this. But how bad is it in Cleveland? The cost of a ticket for the game is about the same as two Happy Meals. Thats pretty sad considering the Browns once proud franchise.Deebo Samuel 49ers Jersey . Following a lopsided 5-2 loss against the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday night, Paul MacLean told reporters that "theres a lack of focus, theres a lack of leadership and theres a lack of preparation" with his struggling team. That came on the heels of Bryan Murray taking the unusual step of going into the locker room at the Prudential Center and addressing the players himself. Deion Sanders Youth Jersey . SIMONS ISLAND, Ga.JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have fired Gus Bradley, ending his tenure with the second-worst winning percentage of any NFL head coach who has coached at least 50 games.Owner Shad Khan made the move on Sunday, just hours after the Jaguars 21-20 loss at the Houston Texans dropped them to 2-12. Sundays loss was the Jaguars ninth in a row, which is the most in franchise history in a single season.GM Dave Caldwell will have a news conference on Monday afternoon to announce an interim coach for the seasons final two games. Its likely to be offensive line coach Doug Marrone or defensive backs coach DeWayne Walker.I thanked Gus Bradley today for his commitment to the Jacksonville Jaguars over the past four seasons, owner Shad Khan said in a statement. As anyone close to our team knows, Gus gave his staff and players literally everything he had. Our players competed for Gus and I know they have great respect for him, as do I.Gus also represented the Jaguars, the Jacksonville community and the NFL in nothing less than a first-class manner as our head coach. That counts for a lot. It is unfortunately evident that we must make a change. I thought it would be best to do it immediately after todays result so Gus can step away, relax and regroup with his family during the Christmas and holiday season.Bradley was 14-48 (.226) in three-plus seasons with the Jaguars. The only coach with a worse winning percentage is Bert Bell (.190), who also was the Philadelphia Eagles owner. This was supposed to be the season that the Jaguars had a legitimate chance to win the AFC South, which is the worst division in the NFL. Khan said after the 2015 season that a winning record in 2016 was everybodys reasonable expectation. That didnt happen, and Sundays loss to the?Texans?was apparently Khans breaking point. The Jaguars intercepted Houston quarterback Brock Osweiler twice, and Jags return man?Marqise Lee returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown, but the Jaguars managed just 150 yards of offense and blew a 20-8 third-quarter lead. They lost their sixth in a row to the Texans.I dont know, really, for anybody in this locker room how much more frustrated you can be, quarterback Blake Bortles said. Once again we had all the opportunities in the world, chances in the fourth quarter to score, and we just dont do it.The Jaguars havent won a game since Oct. 16, when they rallied to beat Chicago 17-16. Since then, the Jaguars have lost to Oakland, Tennessee, Kansas City, Houston, Detroit and Buffalo for the third six-game losing streak in Bradleys tenure. The Jaguars 33-16 loss to Oakland at EverBank Field on Oct. 23 prompted Khan to attend a team meeting the following day to ask the players why the Jaguars werent winning more games. Three days later, the Jaguars were embarrassed again on national television in a 36-22 loss at the Tennessee Titans. The Titans rolled up 354 yardss and 20 first downs and led 27-0 at halftime.dddddddddddd The Jaguars scored two garbage touchdowns to make the score seem less outrageous. Two days later, Bradley fired offensive coordinator Greg Olson and promoted quarterbacks coach Nathaniel Hackett. The Jaguars offense has been marginally better in the four games since but still hasnt scored more than 21 points in any of those games. Before the season, everything appeared to be in place for the Jaguars to be competitive in the AFC South, especially after GM Dave Caldwell rebuilt the defense in the offseason. The unit ranked 26th or worse in scoring defense and 24th or worse in total defense from 2013-15 under Bradley. They gave up a franchise-record 449 points in 2013 and 448 points in 2015. From 2013-15 the Jaguars defense recorded the fewest interceptions in the NFL (26) and ranked 31st in scoring defense (27.3 points per game), 31st in third-down defense (43.8 percent) and 29th in total defense (375.0 yards per game). Thanks to several key offseason additions -- defensive tackle Malik Jackson, cornerback Prince Amukamara?and free safety Tashaun Gipson in free agency, and cornerback Jalen Ramsey and linebacker?Myles Jack in the first two rounds of the draft -- the defense has been better under first-time coordinator Todd Wash, whom Bradley promoted from defensive line coach after he fired longtime friend and defensive coordinator Bob Babich after last season. However, the offense, which carried the team a year ago, has been the problem. Quarterback Blake Bortles has not played well in 2016. After setting franchise records in passing yards (4,428) and passing TDs (35) in 2015, Bortles has struggled with turnovers (20) and hasnt made big plays in the passing game. He has regressed mechanically, and in October he brought in a personal throwing coach for two days to help him try to fix issues with his footwork and delivery.Bradley was Seattles defensive coordinator when Caldwell hired him to be the Jaguars fifth head coach in January 2013. Together they set out to rebuild a franchise that was coming off a 2-14 season and had one of the worst rosters in the NFL.Bradley went 4-12 in his first season and 3-13 in his second, with 19 of those 25 losses coming by double digits. After the 2014 season, Bradley fired offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch over what he said were philosophical differences relating to how much Fisch was asking Bortles to do within the offense. Bradley replaced Fisch with Olson, and Bortles and the offense flourished in 2015.The Jaguars were 5-11 last season and Khan announced in late December that Bradley would return in 2016, and after the season the owner gave Bradley a one-year extension through 2017.Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
