Paul Merson says Arsenal must part company with Arsene Wenger if Leicester or Tottenham win the Premier League this season.Arsenal are five points behind leaders Leicester and three points behind Spurs with 11 games to play, following Sundays 3-2 defeat at Manchester United.Arsenal boss Wenger signed no senior outfield players last summer and former player Merson says he must pay for that decision with his job if they lose out in the title race to a team with less financial muscle. If Man City dont win the league and Tottenham or Leicester do then Arsene Wenger has to go, he told Sky Sports. If youre sitting there telling those fans - loyal Arsenal fans - that they dont need any new players at the start of the season and then you dont win the league in front of Leicester or Tottenham then I dont see how you can justify it.If Man City win the league he can turn around and say theyve got all the money in the world and can go and buy whoever they want, so would whoever I bought have made much difference? But if Leicester or Tottenham win the league after he said they didnt need any players then I dont see how he can keep his job. Theres a thousand managers who could come in and get Arsenal in the top four. Paul Merson Graeme Souness described Arsenals performance against an injury-hit United side as a bordering on a joke on Super Sunday and Merson agreed with that assessment. And he said Wenger must take responsibility for failing to motivate his players as they enter the final weeks of the season. Graeme Souness didnt hold back when discussing Arsenals performance Arsenal had 12 cup finals to play, Merson added. But they went out on Sunday with an attitude of its only Man United and theyve got loads of injuries and kids playing, so well breeze through this game. Parlour: No Arsenal leaders Lack of leadership to blame for Old Trafford defeat It just frustrates me and it absolutely does my head in.People point to the players, but the manager has to get the players up for these games. Man United might be fifth and not having a good season, but its still Man United in front of 75,000 people. Arsene Wenger says it isnt hard to stay positive and is ready to keep fighting Wenger has guided Arsenal to a top-four finish in each of his 19 seasons in charge - and they remain seven points clear above Manchester United in fifth. But Merson says there are plenty of other managers who could achieve Champions League football with Arsenal. He said: People may say theres nobody better than him, but theres a thousand managers who could come in and get Arsenal in the top four. Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour identified a lack of leadership A thousand managers would come to Arsenal and say dont give me a penny, but if I get Arsenal in the top four then pay me 10 million quid.Every football manager in the world would take that deal. Arsenal are always going to get in the top four.If Leicester or Tottenham win the title then I just dont see how he can keep his job.Do you agree with Merse? They had dropped six of seven and were seven games out of the second wild card -- and 10 behind AL Central leader Cleveland. With the Aug. 1 non-waiver trade deadline approaching, Hahn said the White Sox have to stay open-minded. But they are ruling out adding short-term rental players who could only help the team this year. They are, however, at least willing to consider just about any other action, even a major rebuild. And Hahn said that includes chairman Jerry Reinsdorf. An overhaul would be a huge step for an organization that has tried to contend through trades and free agency in recent years. But with one playoff appearance since the 2005 championship season, Hahn acknowledged the plan hasnt paid off the way the White Sox envisioned. Were not where we want to be, Hahn said. Weve spent a fair amount of time focusing on the here-now for the last few years and it hasnt paid off as handsomelly as we hoped.ddddddddddddSo we have to stay open-minded.If they went the rebuild route, ace Chris Sale and fellow All-Star pitcher Jose Quintana would no doubt command high prices. But with team options, the White Sox have Sale under control through 2019 and Quintana through 2020.The notion of lets sell off everything because its not working might be a little extreme, especially if you expect to be able to put yourself in position to have a perennial quality product in the window of control for some of these guys, Hahn said.Hahn also offered updates on several injured players. He said pitcher Carlos Rodon (wrist) is progressing nicely and will make a minor-league rehab start before returning.Catcher Alex Avila (hamstring) suffered a setback in a rehab game with Triple-A Charlotte and likely wont be activated for another month.Right-hander Zach Putnam (right elbow) also had a setback and will likely need to have bone spurs removed from his elbow. Hahn said outfielder Austin Jackson, recovering from a torn meniscus in his left knee, will start ramping up non-impact activity in the coming days. ' ' '
