JOLIET, Ill. -- Kevin Harvick was in no mood to discuss his Chicagoland Speedway finish. He didnt have anything to say after a Sunday that started off bad, appeared to have promise and then got much worse. The 2014 Sprint Cup champion was sent to the rear for the start of the race for unapproved adjustments after prerace technical inspection. He quickly drove into the top-10 but he got caught on pit road when the caution came out.The team tried to send him out after changing only two tires so he could stay on the lead lap, and he failed to beat the leader to the starting line by inches. That meant he lost a lap, and then he had to come back in for two more tires and not take the wave-around.Because there were only three more cautions the rest of the way, Harvick pitted for tires each time instead of taking the wave-around to get back on the lead lap. He finished 20th.We usually have more [cautions], said Greg Zipadelli, Stewart-Haas Racing vice president of competition. Every time he had an opportunity to get his lap back, they didnt. It is what it is. ... Its life. How you deal with it, the karma, how you react to it -- right now we go back to work.Harvick dropped to 13th in the standings. He certainly can still advance to the quarterfinal round with good races at New Hampshire or Dover.Weve had fast cars all year, so theres no reason to panic, Zipadelli said.Zipadelli said they just cant make mistakes, including the prerace penalty. Its no secret that NASCAR is trying to crack down on teams making slight body adjustments either when the cars are being pushed to the grid or on the grid.It happens, Zipadelli said. Its hard to say [what NASCAR saw]. ... Every car should have to go to back for what they look like when they roll off pit road most weeks. Its the game you play.Xfinity Series: Jones the favorite?Erik Jones made a little bit of a statement as the favorite for the Xfinity Series Chase as he won the last race of the regular season Saturday.Elliott Sadler, who won two races this year, saw his 59-point lead wiped away as Jones, now with four wins, enters as the top seed. Whos the favorite? All the media want to pick all the Toyota young drivers, the 41-year-old Sadler, a Chevy driver, said. Ill let you pick whoever the heck yall want to pick. Were not going to lay over and die. Im sure as hell not. Were pumped and ready. ... We dominated the regular season. While the 20-year-old Jones won the most races, he was fifth overall (94 points behind) in the standings. In some ways, it could be looked at that his biggest hurdle is beating himself.I tend to do that every once in a while along the way, Jones said. A lot of it is just settling in and finding your groove and just not trying to overdo it.There are a lot of times where I try to get too much at the wrong time. We did a really good job today [at Chicagoland] of not doing that. ... I never forced the issue all day. If we can do that every race in the Chase, well be in good shape.Jones said with the Chase format, the team went for wins every week, and he would have raced it differently if it had been a season-long points battle. We all know Jeff Gordon and Kyle Busch tore up a lot of stuff in their younger years while Erik hasnt done that, Jones crew chief Chris Gabehart said. He takes great care of his equipment. What he doesnt know, he doesnt know.Keeping him under that line while still being able to pound the fence like Kyle Larson and not beat himself ... is a testament to how good he is at such a young age. I look forward to it. Its not going to be easy.Camping World Truck Series: Hemric locks in, gets 2017 rideDaniel Hemric and Timothy Peters were the ones who could breathe a sigh of relief Friday night as they earned the two spots available on points to get into the Camping World Truck Series version of the Chase.Hemric pretty much was in barring a disaster, and Peters was pretty much in as long as there wasnt a first-time 2016 winner.Kyle Busch outlasted a slew of challengers -- including potential winners who would have knocked out Peters -- for the win. Hemric finished second, getting into the Chase by finishing tied atop the series standings despite not having a win.Already locked into the Chase going into the regular-season finale were William Byron, Matt Crafton, Johnny Sauter, John Hunter Nemechek, Christopher Bell and Ben Kennedy. The weekend got better for Hemric, who announced Saturday that he would join Richard Childress Racing in 2017 to drive in the Xfinity Series. Its a lot of weight off my shoulders, Hemric said. Any racer knows that no matter how much you like to say it dont bother you going into the end of your season, in the back of your mind it can take a toll on you. ... Now I know I can focus on from here until we get to Homestead on the truck side.Hemrics team owner Brad Keselowski said he was happy to see one of his drivers get to move into the Xfinity Series. Hemric said he has had a long relationship with the Dillon family -- Childress grandsons Austin and Ty Dillon drive for him -- that helped in the negotiations. RCR has not announced a sponsor, crew chief or car number for Hemric.China Shoes 2020 . Brett Kulak and Jackson Houck of the Vancouver Giants were each charged with assault causing bodily harm on Aug. 18, according to the B.C. court services.EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Theres BIG plays in football -- and there are big plays. The New York Giants made the most of their big plays on both sides of the ball in a 28-23 win over slumping Philadelphia on Sunday. The Eagles simply didnt in losing for the fourth times in five games. This NFC East contest was a game of huge plays.Rookie quarterback Carson Wentz and the Eagles had seven plays from scrimmage that gained at least 20 yards, including four greater than 30 yards, and a 66-yard punt return by Darren Sproles. The result was 23 points. Two interceptions, including one late that gave the Eagles a first down at the Giants 34 with 1:48 to play, and the punt return yielded not a single point. Philadelphia also failed to convert a fourth-and-12 and a fourth-and-1 from the Giants 23 and 6, respectively, in the second quarter. And a last-gasp fourth-and-10 pass from the Giants 17 in the closing minute was incomplete. The Giants (5-3) were just the opposite. First-quarter interceptions by Landon Collins and Andrew Adams were turned into Eli Manning touchdown passes of 26 yards to Odell Beckham Jr . and 30 to rookie Roger Lewis Jr.A 46-yard pass to Victor Cruz set up Beckhams second touchdown, a 1-yard jump ball, and Manning capped his first four TD passing day of the season with a 32-yarder to Sterling Shepard in the third quarter.I know we won, Beckham said a day after his 24th birthday. I know there were some big plays. We made some, they made some. I think this was more of a game of whos going to come up with a stop. We did that. The biggest stop came in the closing minutes with New York ahead by five points. Jordan Hicks intercepted a Manning pass that was tipped by Connor Barwin. It put the Eagles 34 yards away from beating the Giants for the sixth time in seven games.A 17-yard pass to Nelson Agholor followed, but thats where the Eagles (4-4) came up shortt yet again this season,Wentz (27 of 47 for 364 yards) missed Agholor on first down.dddddddddddd Under blitz pressure, he was not close on the next two plays, and he overthrew Jordan Matthews on fourth down in the end zone.I didnt want to fade him too much like that, Wentz said. Thats red-zone football. Youve got to be precise down there and we just missed that one.Its been the story in each of the four losses. As a team, weve just got to learn how to finish, thats what I keep saying, Wentz said. It sounds clich??, but it really just comes down to executing. I think, outside of the first two interceptions, I thought we moved the ball OK. We just couldnt finish drives in the red zone, and we didnt finish at the end of the game, either.Thats the difference with the Giants this season, they are finishing games. Their five wins have been by a total of 20 points.Definitely a big win in the division, Manning said. Philadelphia, the last few years has had our number. Weve played close games, but havent been able to win those close games, so to be able to pull it off today and get that win was nice. The Eagles now have lost three games in the division, so their chances of winning it rely on putting together a string of victories in the second half of the season, which will feature five home games. If you look around the league right now we are obviously not in a spot we want to be in, but we are in a good spot, tight end Zach Ertz said. We just have to take it one game at a time. The good thing is all of these games we are in position to win, we just have to find somewhere before the last drive, find those plays that we need to make between then and there.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
