CLEVELAND -- The outlook for the Cleveland Indians changed considerably over the weekend. The Indians shut out Texas for the second straight day, 6-0 Sunday to complete a three-game sweep and give Cleveland its fourth straight victory. Ubaldo Jimenez (8-5) allowed two hits in eight scoreless innings -- matching his longest outing of the season -- and the Indians recorded their major league-leading 14th shutout. "Sometimes you catch a team at a good time when theyre not hot and you have to take advantage of it," Indians manager Terry Francona said. Cleveland is three games behind Detroit in the AL Central. The Rangers, who have lost 12 of 15, have seen their normally high-powered offence come to a stop. Texas hasnt scored since the eighth inning of Friday nights 11-8 loss in 11 innings, a stretch of 21 innings. The Rangers are 2-8 since the All-Star break. "There is a difference between getting beat and losing," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "The first two games, we got beat. What I want to see is the Texas Rangers. Today they were out there, but I didnt see who I thought the Texas Rangers were." Elvis Andrus first-inning double and A.J. Pierzynskis single in the fifth accounted for the Rangers only hits. Jason Kipnis two-out single in the fifth broke a scoreless tie. Yan Gomes RBI single and Michael Bourns two-run double added three runs in the sixth as the Indians completed their first three-game sweep at home over Texas since Aug. 12-14, 1980. The Indians winning streak has come at an opportune time. Cleveland lost four of five coming out of the All-Star break and committed 11 errors in seven games after the layoff. "Were having fun and were pulling off some good wins," said first baseman Nick Swisher, who had three hits Sunday. "Collectively, were playing great. They have some great hitters over there so for our pitchers to be doing that, were doing something right." Jimenez struck out six and walked three. Vinnie Pestano pitched the ninth. "Its good competition," Jimenez said of the Indians pitching success. "You dont want to be the guy who goes out there and doesnt pitch well. Everybody wants to pitch a good game." Kipnis single came off Alexi Ogando (4-3), who allowed one run in 4 2-3 innings. Clevelands sixth-inning runs came off reliever Robbie Ross. Mike Aviles added a two-run homer in the eighth. Kipnis first-inning single capped a 12-pitch at-bat against Ogando, who had to work around trouble in the first three innings before settling down. He retired seven straight at one point before Bourn drew a two-out walk in the fifth. Swisher singled before Kipnis dropped a single in front of right fielder Nelson Cruz to score Bourn. Kipnis hit finished Ogando, who threw 92 pitches in his second start since coming off the disabled list. The right-hander allowed three runs in five innings on Wednesday against the Yankees. Ogando allowed six hits, walked two and struck out one. Singles by Michael Brantley and Carlos Santana started the sixth-inning rally. Gomes singled up the middle with two outs to score Brantley before Bourn drove a double to left-centre for a 4-0 lead. Jimenez, who struck out six and walked three, dodged trouble in the first when Andrus doubled with one out. Cruz followed with a walk, but Adrian Beltre bounced into a double play. Jimenez retired 10 in a row before Pierzynski singled to lead off the fifth. David Murphy walked and Jurickson Profar sacrificed but Mitch Moreland, who is hitless in his past 20 at-bats, popped out. Leonys Martin hit a hard ground ball on a 3-2 pitch to Swisher, who made a lunging stop at first base. He dropped the ball on the way to the bag, but recovered in time to record the out. Right fielder Ryan Raburn made a leaping catch at the wall in the eighth to take an extra base hit from Mitch Moreland. Bourn never saw the ball off the bat and Raburn raced into right-centre to make the catch. Andrus has hit safely in all 37 career games against the Indians. Texas right-hander Tanner Scheppers pitched a scoreless seventh inning in his first appearance since he was involved in a physical altercation in downtown Cleveland late Thursday night. He sustained facial cuts and bruises in the incident, which the Rangers and police are investigating, and was unavailable to pitch Friday. Scheppers said before Saturdays game that he could pitch but wasnt used. NOTES: Washington said the slumping Moreland will likely be rested in two of the next three games. ... Texas returns home Monday to begin a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels. Rangers RHP Matt Garza (1-0), who was acquired from the Cubs last week, takes on Angels RHP Jered Weaver (5-5). Garza has a 7-1 overall record in 12 starts this season. ... The Indians continue their seven-game homestand Monday against the Chicago White Sox. NORTON, Mass. -- The question, at its roots, really was based on a compliment, backhanded as it might have been.It was asked of Paul Casey just minutes after hed completed a third consecutive 5-under 66 at the Deutsche Bank Championship that gave him a 3-stroke lead entering Mondays final round. This is the same Paul Casey who once was ranked as high as third in the entire world, the same player who owns 13 career victories on the European Tour, the same one who has cashed nearly $30 million in professional tournament earnings alone. Its also the same Casey who is making his 194th career PGA Tour start this week and somehow, someway, has only one career title on United States soil. Its true: While his résumé shows five career runner-up finishes on the PGA Tour, three third-place results and three dozen top-10s, his lone victory remains the 2009 Shell Houston Open. And so, with all of that information at our disposal, knowing what a talented player the 39-year-old Casey has been for so many years, the question really was rooted in a compliment. Why havent you won more over here?Rather than chafe at the insinuation or make excuses, Casey mowed down the question like so many putts he has rolled in on the TPC Boston greens this week.I think early in my career, admittedly, there was a couple of fairly good players that seemed to be dominating, he answered. Goodness knows how many wins Tiger [Woods] and Phil [Mickelson] and then theres others. Im sure Ernie [Els] thinks he could have about 10 majors if it wasnt for those two, as well. Theres lots of guys. What an era to play in. Im proud that I played in that period of time. Got to play with Tiger. I saw some amazing stuff and I hope that I see that again.Casey didnt stop there, though. He added that for much of his career, when he was playing PGA Tour events, it was against the best of the best.A lot of the time when I was playing in the U.S., I would only play 15 events and those were majors, World Golf events, Bay Hill, Memorial. Basically, everywhere Tiger was. It was tough. So there wasnt a lot oof opportunity is what it felt like.dddddddddddd You play some good golf, you get top-10s and just get blown out of the water by what feels like the greatest ever, which Im fine for that period. He didnt leave it there. With Woods on the shelf and those dominant players less dominant in recent years, he attempted to offer a rationale for what is now a seven-year winless streak.Recently, Ive got no excuse. Im almost looking like its a second chance, wherever that cutoff point is, say, a couple of years ago or something like that. Its now time to try and correct that statistic or double that number of wins, and then triple it, whatever it might be. I dont know the reason. I can give you the answer for the first part right now. The last two or three years, no excuse. But Ive been doing a lot of hard work so lets hope it pays off.The subject has taken on even more relevance this year, as Casey has controversially given up his European Tour membership to focus solely on playing the PGA Tour. That move has kept him from becoming eligible for the European Ryder Cup team, but it has allowed him the luxury of not having to travel back and forth across the Atlantic on a regular basis. Its a luxury that he felt was a necessity at this point in his life.Lifestyle is totally different, and thats something I cant emphasize enough, he said. Having said that, I still missed my little guys second birthday on Wednesday. Theres still things I miss. ... Theres still things were missing and it hurts, but its way better than it was, and so thats wonderful. On Monday, Casey will attempt to not only double that PGA Tour career victory total, but justify his decision to play in the U.S. full-time.That second win has been long elusive, and surprising that it hasnt come quicker.Casey doesnt have an excuse -- or even a reason -- for why he hasnt won in the past few years. Hes hoping, though, that after the final round, hell no longer need one. ' ' '
