BOISE, Idaho -- Russell Knox shot the fifth 59 in Web.com Tour history Friday, missing a chance to break the tour record when he settled for pars on the final two holes in the second round of the Boise Open. The 28-year-old Scot had two eagles and eight birdies in his bogey-free round at 6,807-yard, par-71 Hillcrest Country Club. He made a 7-foot par putt on his final hole, the par-4 ninth. Knox is the second Web.com Tour player in two weeks to shoot 59, following Will Wilcox in the Utah Championship. Notah Begay III had a 59 in the 1998 Dominion Open, Doug Dunakey accomplished the feat in the 1998 Miami Valley Open and Jason Gore did it in the 2005 Cox Classic. Knox had a one-stroke lead at 13 over after opening a 69 on Thursday. The Washington Capitals were obviously frustrated by their 5-0 loss to the New York Rangers in Game 7 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series and perhaps no one was more vocal about it than Alexander Ovechkin. In an interview with Slava Malamud of the Russian newspaper Sport-Express after the game on Monday night, Ovechkin didnt hide his displeasure with the officiating and even took it up to another level. "I am not saying there was a phone call from (the league), but someone just wanted Game 7," he told the paper. "For the ratings. You know, the lockout, escrow, the league needs to make profit. I dont know whether the reefs were predisposed against us or the league.dddddddddddd But to not give obvious penalties (against the Capitals), while for us any little thing was immediately penalized." The Capitals had 16 power play chances over the seven games compared to 28 for the Rangers, while Washington had no chances in Game 6. "The refereeing - You understand it yourself," said Ovechkin. "How can there be no penalties at all during the playoffs?" Ovechkin was held off scoreless for the final five games of the first round series and was held to a single shot on goal in Game 7. He had just one goal and one assist in the series. ' ' '
