Scotland 327 for 5 (Coetzer 127, Mommsen 111*, Shahzad 3-61) beat UAE 229 (Mustafa 43, Evans 4-41) by 98 runsScorecard and ball-by-ball detailsScotlands batsmen celebrated the annual Fringe Festival in Edinburgh by orchestrating a run fest of their own at The Grange Cricket Club Ground on Sunday afternoon as captain Preston Mommsen and vice-captain Kyle Coetzer brought up centuries in a 98-run rout over UAE.It was just the second time that two Scotland batsmen scored centuries in the same ODI, the previous effort coming seven years ago in a loss to Canada. Coetzer, Richie Berrington and Mommsen also each passed 1000 career ODI runs each - in that order - joining Gavin Hamilton and Neil McCallum.Coetzer ensured the hosts would not be on the losing end this time, his 127 laying the platform for Scotlands second-highest ODI total - 327 for 5. UAE let themselves down badly after sending Scotland in at the toss. Mohammad Shahzad set the tone for a wretched fielding display when, in the third over, opener Craig Wallace top-edged his first delivery but Shahzad spilled a straightforward chance at long leg. That opened the doors for a 78-run opening stand. Coetzer targetted Mohammad Naveed and captain Amjad Javed during the Powerplay, and at one point, clubbed six fours and a six in the space of 15 balls off Naveed, Javed and Krishna Chandran to bring up his half-century off 37 balls.Left-arm spinner Ahmed Razas introduction slowed Scotland as he removed Wallace for 16 with his third ball. Raza also got Calum MacLeod, with a simple return catch, in the 20th over in a superb spell of 2 for 28 where he bowled 10 overs straight. Coetzer had been dropped on 73 off Raza when a top-edged sweep looped up straight to Naveed, who was positioned perfectly on the circle at short fine leg, but let it through his hands. The drop seemed to play on the mind of Naveed, who returned for a second spell in the 29th over and routinely dropped too short to be punished by Coetzer. In all, Coetzer struck nine of his 14 fours off Naveed, including a cover drive in the 33rd over for his 12th four and third ODI ton, off 102 balls. The third-wicket stand with Mommsen had realised 112 before Coetzer drove to long-on where Shaiman Anwar took a juggling catch on the rope to give Shahzad his first wicket. Anwar took another catch at long-on off Shahzad two overs later to remove Michael Leask for 10, leaving Scotland 236 for 4 in the 41st over.Mommsen, though, propelled Scotland to 91 off the last nine overs, including a 69-run stand with Richie Berrington for the fifth wicket. The stand ended in the 48th over when Berrington skied one to the deep point sweeper for a 16-ball 27. While Coetzer profited most from the straight boundaries, Mommsen peppered the leg-side rope for eight of his nine fours, including a series of paddle sweeps. Mommsen got to his fifty in 61 balls, and took only another 34 to bring up his second ODI ton.A scoop over fine leg off Shahzad in the final over gave Mommsen 1000 career ODI runs. His only prior ODI ton also came against UAE, an unbeaten 139 to win the final of the 2014 World Cup Qualifier in New Zealand.UAEs chase got off to a very confident start with Rohan Mustafa and L Sreekumar racking up 68 in the Powerplay. Sreekumar flicked Alasdair Evans for two fours over midwicket and a third driven back down the ground in the medium-pacers first over, which went for 16. But Evans dragged his length back in his next over, the 12th of the innings, and Sreekumar fended a short ball to wicketkeeper Matthew Cross to end the opening stand on 72. Evans claimed Mustafa in the 16th over for 43, courtesy of a spectacular diving catch at point by Berrington to make it 79 for 2.From there, wickets fell at regular intervals with Con de Lange applying solid pressure in a superb display of left-arm spin to finish with 2 for 35. The next best partnership was 40 for the eighth wicket as Javed made a late fightback with 32 off 19. Javed hit Evans hard in the 41st over, before miscuing one to extra cover. Evans knocked over Chandran next to finish with 4 for 41 in eight overs, before Leask sealed the match, having Saqlain Haider top-edge to fine leg as UAE were bowled out for 229 in 43.3 overs. The win for Scotland brought them level with Hong Kong on the WCL Championship table in second place with nine points, three behind Netherlands. UAE remains in joint-last place with Namibia on two points. The two sides face off again on Tuesday. Phillip Dorsett II Jersey . PETERSBURG, Fla. STANFORD, Calif. -- After opening the season with losses to lower-division Eastern Washington and Boise State, Washington State has staged a dramatic turnaround and is now overwhelming the Pac-12s recent powerhouses. The Cougars followed a lopsided win over Oregon that was fueled by a dominant running attack with a thorough beating of No. 15 Stanford led by the play in the trenches.Luke Falk threw for 357 yards and four touchdowns and the defensive line shut down Christian McCaffrey and the Cardinal offense in a 42-16 victory on Saturday night. We had to realize theres no good finesse teams in football, receiver Gabe Marks said. Even the teams you guys like to call finesse teams, they really arent. ... We had to come back to basics and just grind it out.The Cougars (3-2, 2-0) held the Cardinal (3-2, 2-2) to 296 yards of offense and didnt allow an offensive score until the final play of the game. The offensive line managed to protect Falk well enough to allow him to find his receivers downfield.Falk connected with Tavares Martin Jr. twice in the first half and added second-half TD passes to Marks and River Cracraft to help the Cougars follow up last weeks 51-33 win over Oregon by ending an eight-game losing streak to Stanford. The Ducks and Cardinal have combined to win the past seven conference titles. That streak is in serious jeopardy this year as the Cardinal got blown out for the second straight game, losing in back-to-back weeks for the first time in six seasons under coach David Shaw. Stanford lost 44-6 at Washington last week. The Ducks are 0-3 in conference play.Stanford has been the class of the conference for a while now, Marks said. Since Ive been here, theyve been a powerhouse. For us, these past two weeks have really been important to finally see the work pay off and realize our potential and becoming what we thought we would be.Making matters worse for the Cardinal was the fact that last years Heisman runner-up McCaffrey went to the locker room in the second half with an injury and didnt return to the game. McCaffrey came back to the sideline and had his helmet on, but didnt re-enter the game. There was no reason to put him in late in the gaame, Shaw said.ddddddddddddWe just left him out. Well see how he is during the course of the week.THE TAKEAWAYWashington State: The Cougars got their first win against a team ranked in the top 15 since knocking off No. 5 Texas in the 2003 Holiday Bowl. Falk stepped up in key spots, connecting on a 29-yard score to Martin on fourth-and-7 to make it 14-3 in the second quarter. After letting Stanford back into the game with an interception that Frank Buncom returned for a TD, Falk hit Marks for a score on third-and-goal from the 17 to make it 28-10.Stanford: The Cardinal offense struggled to do anything as the offensive line was dominated in the trenches and Ryan Burns missed on chances for a few big plays. McCaffrey was held to 35 yards on eight carries and one catch for 5 yards. Stanford allowed four sacks after giving up eight last week and the only big play came on a 44-yard pass to Michael Rector on the final play of the first half. Shaw said the Cardinal missed four potential TD passes and the offense didnt reach the end zone until the final play. Even the usually reliable Conrad Ukropina missed two field goals. So weve got to hit those opportunities. Shaw said. You know, its not just one of those. Weve got to hit multiple. If those things are there, weve got to hit them.MUSIC MANCougars coach Mike Leach didnt want to blame a couple of false starts on the noise, even if he did say the public address speakers were especially loud.It was loud and it sounded good, he said. I thought they played good music, too. I mean, some of the music I could do without, but I thought Stanford has great taste in music. Who would have thunk it?POLL IMPLICATIONSStanford should plummet again after dropping eight spots last week in the AP Top 25 poll .UP NEXTWashington State: The Cougars return home to host UCLA.Stanford: The Cardinal take a break from conference play to travel to struggling Notre Dame (2-4).---AP college football website: collegefootball.ap.org---This story has been corrected to fix Washington States conference record to 2-0.
